Aidan O'Brien has trained yet another Epsom Derby winner in Tipperary

Aidan O'Brien has equalled Lester Piggott's record of nine Epsom Derby wins

Tipperary-based trainer Aidan O'Brien won his record-equalling ninth Epsom Derby this afternoon when Auguste Rodin stormed down the home stretch to get the verdict ahead of the 66/1 shot King of Steel, with White Birch (12/1) in third.

The winner of the 244th Derby, ridden by Ryan Moore, was returned at 9/2.

It was yet another Derby winner for Coolmore and Ballydoyle and Aidan O'Brien, who has now trained 42 English classic winners, told ITV Racing that Auguste Rodin was "a total home-bed horse" and great credit was due to everyone involved with the horse.

"He would have preferred a lot stronger pace and he had to quicken twice, but he's so exciting for us. His movement is just incredible.

"Ryan gave him an incredible ride, a peach of a ride".

Reflecting on the 2,000 Guineas, when the horse started as favourite but was almost tailed off, O'Brien said "everything just fell against him that day.

"It's a funny game, it was just one of those days".

He said that all options were open to him regarding his next race.
