Ladies played out of their skins
On Wednesday, the Slievenamon Ladies secured victory over Dungarvan in the latest round of the Challenge Cup.
Breda Foley, Carmel Williams, Vera Power, Ber Ryan and Anne Murphy played out of their skins to advance to the next stage and the club couldn’t be prouder of them.
Great weather for golf
While our Golfers are basking in the unexpectedly fine weather, Paul Kenny and his crew are somewhat less enamoured of the relentless sunshine and are working in overdrive to maintain the greens in their lush luxuriance. Rumours that a rain dance expert has been flown in to offer assistance have yet to be debunked! In the meantime, it’s early starts for the greenkeeping team.
Making the best of the sunshine
Amid all the super work being carried out on the course, members took full advantage of the fine conditions to get in some quality golf.
Win for Richard Falsely
As the Patrician Presentation Seconday School Fethard Golf Classic took place last weekend, the Vale Oil Open heats had to take a week off. However, the Gents took to the course on Sunday for the weekend competition. Richard Falsely secured top spot on the day, with John O’Sullivan taking second and Brian Moore in third, while Michael A O’Meara took the Gross prize.
Mixed Scramble
Monday’s Mixed Scramble had one of its largest turnouts so far this year and there was great excitement when Billy Phelan shot a hole in one on the 4th. Appropriately, Billy’s team, comprising Eamon Power, Billy and Gabrielle Scofield, took the top spot with a nett score of 35.4.
Herbie Buck Kyle Farrell and Marie Quirke took second on 36.8 and Michael W O’Meara, Trevor Gough and Carmel Williams secured third spot on 37.4.
Win for Marie
The Ladies Sunday Tuesday 18 Hole Stableford Competition was won by Marie Holohan on 44 points, with Brid Delehanty runner-up with 43 points and Joan Morrisey taking third spot on 40 points.
Senior 3-Man Rumble
On Wednesday, our Seniors played a 3 man Rumble, with two to count.
In third place was Team
9 with 84 points: Declan Whyte, Jackie O’Dwyer and Robert Phelan
In second place, Team 3 with 89 points: Eamonn Power, Frank Lonergan and Patrick Moloney.
In first place, Team 8 with 90 points: Trevor Gough, Con Lucey and Brendan Clancy.
Anne Murphy in flying form
In Thursday’s Ladies Scramble, Anne Murphy featured again, having obviously found her second wind. Her team, comprising Josephine Murphy, Anne and Marlene Murphy won the competition with a combined score of 43.
Glen wins Heffernan Family Duel
On Saturday, we hosted the annual Heffernan family duel - oops, family competition, as the Kildare Clan descended on Slievenamon to settle old (golf) scores. Last year’s champion, Danny Heffernan, was pipped at the post by brother Glen (although Paula Cahill did treat him to a celebratory birthday muffin later in the Coffee House!).
The competition was cut-throat but it was all smiles in the Coffee House afterwards as schemes were hatched for next year’s rematch.
