Tipperary 3-13 Kilkenny 1-17
Tipperary’s Intermediate hurlers won the All-Ireland title when they beat Kilkenny in an exciting contest at Semple Stadium on Saturday evening.
Tipp looked on course for a comfortable victory when they led by 12 points at half-time with goals from Michael Heffernan, David Butler and Kieran Morris helping them into that big lead.
However Kilkenny came back strongly in the second half and a goal from Geoff Brennan and a string of points saw them reduce the lead to just a single point with 9 minutes remaining.
Kilkenny had a chance to take the lead but Rory Hickey’s penalty was saved by Tipp goalie James Logue.
That gave them the confidence to close out the victory and late points from Kieran Morris’s free and Paudie O’Dwyer secured their first All-Ireland crown in 12 years.
