Kilsheelan United regain top spot in Division 2

Kilsheelan United regained top spot in League Division 2 after overcoming the challenge of overnight leaders Glen Villa by the odd goal in three at the Ormonde Stores, Kilsheelan last Sunday.

Victory in this top of the table clash saw a Kilsheelan side that have a game in hand break the deadlock after 25 minutes when Trevor Cloona set-up his brother; Barry who headed home. This game remained on the boil with Glen Villa responding, but failing to make headway against a resolute defence that helped to keep Kilsheelan lead intact going in at the break.

Glen Villa continued to pound the Kilsheelan United goal after the changeover and were thrown a life-line on 66 minutes when awarded a penalty. Barry Grogan made no mistake from the penalty spot and restore parity. With a draw looking like the outcome Kilsheelan United grabbed all three points with just two minutes remaining when Barry Cloona scored his and his side’s second following a goalmouth scramble.

This victory sees Kilsheelan United go a point clear of Glen Villa and are now on 13 points from 6 games played. The men from the Glen of Aherlow are on 12 points from 7 games played.
