Golden-Kilfeacle defeated Cashel King Cormacs 0-12 to 1-5 in the Tipperary Co-Op Super Valu West JHC ‘A’ final replay at Dundrum on Sunday. After the opening quarter there was no doubt about the winners superiority, which was reflected in their twelve scores to Cashel’s six and twelve wides to the losers’ ten.
Golden had opening points from Seamus Carr and Stuart Beatie before Cashel got a great break in the sixth minute when Jonathan Walsh goaled. James Hayes had a point in the tenth minute to leave the sides level at the end of the first quarter.
Golden established control during the second quarter and although they led by the minimum of scores, 0-6 to 1-2 at the interval they were controlling the game through their greater strength and commitment. Niall Fitzgerald got Cashel’s two points while Thomas Burns (2) and Liam Nagle replied for Golden. The latter also missed a great goal opportunity just before the half-time whistle.
Golden increased their lead with two Thomas Burns points soon after the resumption but Cashel responded with two to leave a point between the sides. Points were then exchanged to leave Golden a point ahead entering the final quarter, 0-9 to 1-5. Cashel didn’t score again.
The last period was Golden’s. Sensing victory they lifted their game and while scores were few, three points in all, each score lifted the team still more and they were not going to be beaten.
Best for Golden were Keith Landy, Gerard Luby, James Hayes, Thomas Burns, Stuart Beatie and Seamus Carr, while Ruairi Ryan, Kevin O’Leary, Niall Fitzgerald and Jonathan Walsh were notable for Cashel.
