Rosegreen bowed out of the County JFC ‘A’ when losing 0-8 to 1-2 to Shannon Rvs in the semi-final replay at Templetuohy on Sunday.
They will be particularly disappointed at their failure to convert two gilt-edged goal chances in the second half, either of which, if taken, could have meant victory.
Rosegreen had first favour of the harsh elements and the signs were ominous when they reached the break level, 0-2 each - John Flannery pointed a free for Rovers in the 2nd minute and nine further minutes elapsed before Michael Golden levelled for Rosegreen.
Flannery restored Rovers’ advantage but on the stroke of half-time Michael Griffin brought Rosegreen level.
The change-over saw Rovers get a grip on proceedings. County man George Hannigan twice pointed inside four minutes to push them ahead. Killian Ryan scuffed his shot when a Rosegreen goal seemed inevitable. Both sides were reduced to thirteen men when ref Brian Tyrell red-carded Rosegreen’s Killian Ryan and Frank Culleton and Rovers’ Jack Sullivan and Derek Hogan.
Then Vinnie Downey blazed wide with a good goal chance in the 43rd minute and Rovers responded with three points to go five clear.
Rosegreen hopes were raised when Michael Griffin netted to give them a lifeline but Rovers held on for the win they deserved
