From the very start of this game, the visitors played with real power and speed and cut through the Cahir defence with ease.
Clonmel Town scored twice in very quick succession, firstly on six minutes through Sean Browne and again two minutes later through Mark ‘Sparky’ O’Reilly.
The home team then made a series of positional changes and managed to get themselves into the game but on 35 minutes all their hard work was undone when a corner was delivered to the head of Browne who grabbed his second and Town’s third.
Cahir Park continued to produce series of chances of their own and were very unlucky not to have anything to show for it, but on the stroke of half time Town won a penalty when the Cahir keeper, Sean Lonergan managed to bring down Rory McGrath, and O’Reilly stepped up and emphatically slotted home the spot kick to give Town a 4 – 0 half time lead.
The second half was a different affair with the Cahir team working hard to get themselves back into the game. Some really good work particularly though the midfield quartet again saw Cahir repeatedly ask questions of the Town defence which on occasion depended on last ditch tackles to keep The Park at bay.
With Cahir Park pushing further and further forward gaps began to appear and on 65 minutes Danny Hogan finished off a sweeping move with a shot that went in off of the underside of the crossbar and the same player was on hand again seven minutes from time to bundle the ball across the line after a fine save by the Cahir Park keeper giving Clonmel Town a comprehensive six goal win.
