Carrick top at county indoors

The final leg of the County Indoor Championship for U9-U12 was held in Nenagh last weekend.

The final leg of the County Indoor Championship for U9-U12 was held in Nenagh last weekend.

With the championship title to be decided on the final leg of the U12 age group competing, it was a very exciting finish, with Carrick-on-Suir AC athletes wining by a single point. This gave the club victory over Nenagh for the U12 to U19 age group.

In the U9 Boys Callum Costello won the 60m and the Long Jump with a jump of 3.04m.

Kate Dinan and Leah O’Brien both qualified for the final of the 60m, finishing fifth and sixth.

The Girls U10 had a brilliant championship, where Tara Peters won the 60m Gold Final with Aoife O’Shea in third place. In the 60m Silver Final Emma O’Neill was second and Eve Cronin was third.

In the Girls U11 Lorna O’Shea was second in the Long Jump with a jump of 3.52m.

Nicola Lapiy was third in the 300m in 55.60 secs. Natalie Gillman was third in the 60m Silver Final.

In the Girls U12 Kelly Bester won the 60m, with Caoimhe Power in 6th place.

Aine Doyle was second in the High Jump with a jump of 1.16. Gwen Flatley was third in the Long Jump with a jump of 3.65.

Conor Hogan, U12 Boys, was second in the Long Jump with a personal best jump of 12.97. He was third in the High Jump with a clearance in 1.21.

In the Relay Finals the girls U10 were third with a team of Tara Peters, Aoife O’Shea, Aoife Cronin and Kayleigh O’Shea.

The U12s were second with a team of Aoife Power, Aine Doyle, Ciara Dunne and Kelly Bester.

The Boys U12 were third with at team of Dylan Peters, Conor Hogan, Fiachra Twohig and Jamie O’Shea.

Kilnaboy was the venue last weekend for the Munster Master Road Championships, held over a demanding course, and Clonmel Athletic Club members performed very well.

Declan Curley underlined his good form when running a fantastic race to win the over 40 title very impressively in 22 mins 11 secs, a brilliant achievement. This great performance by Declan played a major role in the over 35 County team winning the Gold medals.

Then Derek Nolan also ran very well when winning the over 50 Silver medal after a great tussle in 23:17. There were also good performances from Joe Whelan, 50th in 24:10; Jim St.John, 54th in 24:40 and Billy Prout, 57th in 25:10. This quartet of Derek, Joe, Jim and Billy combined very well to win the silver Inter Club over 50 team medals while Derek, Joe and Jim were on the over 50 County team that won bronze. It was great to see club members running so well.
