Evan Comerford stars for Kilsheelan

Kilsheelan-Kilcash beat Anner Gaels 2-12 to 2-3 in the Hall Alarms South u-21 FC ‘B’ semi-final under lights at Newcastle.

After eight minutes Paul Maher for Kilsheelan raced hit the opening score. In the next attack Maher was surging through again but was fouled and Evan Comerford pointed the resultant free. Kilsheelan broke forward and Charlie Manton saved a certain goal but the rebound fell kindly to Evan Comerford to raise the first green flag.

Maher had his second point following a delivery from Martin Gibbs which was followed by a pointed free from the boot of Comerford. Anner Gaels Brian Healy found Tommy Anglim whose shot came back off the crossbar to the waiting Brian Healy who made no mistake and got his side on the scoresheet. Conor Davin Murphy converted another free for Kilsheelan.

Kilsheelan finished the scoring in this half with Evan Comerford netting another goal and Paudie O’Donovan sending over to leave the scoreline 2-6 to 0-1 at the break.

When play resumed Kilsheelan’s Eoin Kehoe received an injury and was replaced by Alex Harte. The free was sent over by Comerford. Anner Gaels Tommy Anglim was fouled and Ciaran O’Meara’s free was intercepted by John Kehoe and cleared outfield. Mark Slattery was the provider to David Hayes for the Gaels and he pointed. The Kilsheelan kickout landed in the hands of Brian Healy who sent a swift ball to Dillon Butler who blasted to the net to reduce their deficit. Colin Gleeson was in space to curb Butler’s next effort. Corner back Tadgh Lonergan found John Kehoe who registered another point for Kilsheelan.

Paul Maher and Tommy Anglim traded points. Kilsheelan’s Alex Harte pointed from play. The score of the game came from Evan Comerford who sent an excellent shot over from distance near the sideline. Anner Gaels Ciaran O’Meara picked out substitute Darren Boland who edged forward and shot his side’s second goal. The final score of this encounter came from Bill Maher who sent over from play to leave his side deserving winners by 2-12 to 2-3 and safely through to the final.
