Lattin/Cullen bow out of County IHC in defeat to Newport

Newport 5-14

Newport 5-14

Lattin-Cullen 1-12

Newport served notice of their County Intermediate Hurling Championship intentions with a thoroughly convincing last sixteen win over Lattin Cullen in Dundrum on

Saturday afternoon.

Newport made light work of the challenge and they could afford to start taking off players after 40 minutes when Sean O’Brien had completed his hat-trick in scoring his side’s fifth goal.

From the moment Padraig Hogan reacted quickest to tap home a third minute goal, Newport were always in control and they had the game wrapped up by half time when Sean O’Brien and Eoin Shinnors cracked home goals just before the break to see their side lead 3-10 to 0-4.

With the half back line of Andrew Hickey, Stephen O’Connor and Odhran Floyd negating the ability of the Grogan brothers and Cathal Dillon, Lattin Cullen were left with few avenues to get scores, only two points of their total coming from play. Lattin Cullen pressed to the end with Cathal Dillon getting a late consolation goal from a 21 metre free.
