Today is the day the Ireland women's team go head to head with the Olympic champions Canada in their next game in Australia as they compete for the Women's World Cup. This is Ireland's second Group B game with the action taking place in the famous Perth Rectangular stadium
Thousands of Irish people living in Australia, including many from Tipperary who live in Western Australia, will make their way to the stadium and watch at home as well to support the Girls in Green.
Ireland will start the game against Canada as underdogs but the Irish will go into the game with some confidence after doing well in large swarths of their opening game against Australia last Thursday. That tie finished 1-0 to the home side.
Vera Pauw's side will look to Katie McCabe today to unlock the Canadian defence. The Irish attackers have been goal shy in recent games and a good start is vital to ensure the Irish can control the pace of the game in the second half.
A win for Ireland would be sensational but a draw would also be deemed a good result against the reigning Olympic champions Canada because Ireland would still have a final Group B game against Nigeria to come next Monday.
The momentum is currently against Canada who have lost three games in a row ahead of todays encounter. The action will get underway at 1pm today (Irish time) which is an 8pm kickoff in Perth. The game is broadcast live on RTE television.
