Munster Junior Cup (3rd Round)

Cahir Park 0 – 2 Two Mile Borris

Cahir Park never really got going in this game and were dumped out of the FAI Junior Cup, going down to a brace of strikes by the deadly Jamie Carey for the visitors.

Carey showed his intent as early as the eighth minute when he forced a good save from Aaron Wall, in a period of dominance for Borris that saw them pin the home side back consistently.

That was for all but a five- minute spell around the middle of the first half, when both Pa Quinn and Niall Daly were thwarted by good saves from the Borris ‘keeper. But beyond that small spell Borris were in the ascendency and were unlucky not to go to the break in front.

That changed ten minutes into the second period when they finally found a way through thanks to a spectacular goal by Carey, who beat Wall from all of 25 yards.

After that the visitors were content to allow the Park to come at them while looking for a second goal on the break. This came fifteen minutes from time when once again Jamie Carey did the damage, slamming home a second rasping effort from outside the area.

The spirit knocked out of the home side, Borris held on comfortably to the end to find a place in the draw for the next round.

St Michael’s 7 – 0 Rearcross

Saints eased into round four of the FAI Junior Cup while playing well within themselves against a game Rearcross side at Cooke Park on Sunday.

The gulf in class was obvious right from the start and they had a couple of chances to score before finally making one count in the 22nd minute when the ball fell kindly for Danny O’Brien to score.

It could have been two four minutes later when Colin Bargary played in Ashley Kelliher but his effort went narrowly wide.
Three goals in three minutes ended this game as a contest just before the break, when first the evergreen Paul Breen headed home, before O’Brien forced the ball home to add his second, and right on the half time whistle Ed O’Dwyer turned well and his right foot shot nestled in the corner of the net.

It only took three minutes to score a fifth when Breen got his second, heading home a Colin Bargary free kick.
Fifteen minutes from time Jimmy Carr made it six from the penalty spot, and Shane Ryan finished the scoring with a goal two minutes from time, turning home a Jimmy Carr cross.
