Another great year for Tipperary Community Games

County Tipperary Community Games extend their best wishes to everybody for a happy, healthy and successful 2011. There is a wide range of activities on the current programme, children are sure to find something to suit their talents.

Reviewing 2010 it was an excellent year for the games, in addition to numerous events going ahead each month had its own highlights:-

January: Emby Walsh, Carrick On Suir, who has been involved as a sports coach and administrator with Community Games and athletics for over 25 years, was honoured with the Annerville Sports Executive Award. In addition to all her work at County and National level. Emby also attend the World Youth Athletics Championships in Hungary and officiated at the World Special Olympics in Dublin in 2003.

February: The Nationalist Newspaper won a further National Media Award for publicity afforded to the games. Peggy Colville won the National Volunteer of the year award for Co Tipperary.

March: Powerstown Lisronagh U13 Girls Indoor Soccer Team and Nenagh U15 Boys Soccer team won Gold medals at the first Munster Finals in University of Limerick while Cashel and Cloughjordan boys handball teams and St Oliver's Clonmel boys Indoor Soccer Team won Silver medals. Lattin Cullen area won a total of 16 medals at the County Art and Model Making finals.

April: County Swimming Finals were held in Tipperary Town. Families were to the fore here. Adam, Lorna and Aisling Ni Cheallaigh, St Olivers, Clonmel all won Gold medals, their sister, Sarah, won silver.

Gold medals won by the following siblings: Dara and Cathal Murphy from Powerstown, Lucy and Thomas Murphy from Rosegreen, Sinead and Tomas O'Murchu from Tipperary Town, Issac Hogan won gold and his sister Zara won bronze both from Kilsheelan. All other medals were widely spread throughout the county.

May: Liam McKenna, St Olivers won his 5th gold medal at the County Gymnastics finals. Ss Peter and Pauls had a double in the Skittles county finals for the second year in a row.

National Finals in Athlone: Shane Carew Lattin –Cullen won his second successive gold medal in Art, Powerstown Lisronagh u13 girls Indoor Soccer team won gold.

June: Athletics County Finals were in Templemore. Lorraine O'Shea, Ballingarry won her 7th gold medal.

July: Second Munster Finals took place in U.L. Gold Medals won by Cahir Camogie team, both Ss Peter and Pauls Skittles teams and Fethard and Killusty Boys and Girls Volleyball teams and Toomevara u11 Hurling team. Templemore Pitch and Putt

Silver medals won by Killenaule Mini Rugby, Moyne Futsal, Burgess Rounders

(girls) Silvermines Rounders (boys) Ballingarry Tag Rugby, Roscrea u10 GAA.

August: National Finals in Athlone. Gold medals for Michael O'Loughlin, Carrick On Suir – 4th gold in Cycling. Kayleigh Flannery, Clerihan u8 Gymnastics, Aisling Ni Cheallaigh, St Olivers u16 Swimming, Ss Peter and Pauls u14 mixed Skittles, Anthony Tobin, Ss Peter and Pauls U13 Walk, Mairead Teehan, St Flannan's u14 long puck.

Silver medals to: Karen Blair, New Inn u10 Gymnastics, Lara O'Dwyer Tipp Town U12 Ball Throw, Toomevara u11 hurling team.

Bronze medals to: Sinead Kennedy, Cahir u16 Gymnastics, Darren Prout and Lorraine O'Shea, both Ballingarry, Adam McKelvey Long Puck, Caroline Morgan, Javelin. u12 girls Skittles, Boys and girls Volleyball teams

Pewter medals to: Lorna Ni Cheallaigh u14 Swimming, Templemore Pitch and Putt team.

Our county patron Tom Butler and his wife Mary, Fethard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

September: Commenced with sadness due to the passing of our former chairperson, Maureen O'Donoghue, Cashel. Clonmel skittles teams were accorded a mayoral reception. New officers were elected at the County AGM.

October: We lost another dedicated member, former P.R.O. Maureen Guiry of St Johnstowns, Fethard. The Community Employment scheme trained 12 people in the use of a defibrillator.

November: Further celebrations on the occasion of our President, Breeda Christie's 80th Birthday and Breeda was also honoured with the Volunteer in Sport Award for 2010 sponsored by South Tipperary Sports Advisory Body in recognition for her tremendous contribution to athletics and community games.

December: Congrats to two of our gold medallists this year Aisling Ni Cheallaigh, Clonmel and Michael O'Loughlin Carrick On Suir who along with a former competitor Fergal Collins from Ballina have all been selected to receive the coveted Annerville Award for their respective sports i.e. Swimming, Cycling and Handball which will be presented at the annual banquet in Clonmel early in the new year. Well done to all.
