Golden Kilfeacle qualified for the Dundrum House West minor A hurling final as a result of their seven point victory 1-14 to 0-9 over Clonoulty Rossmore in an enjoyable and entertaining semi final played at Cashel on Wednesday evening last.
Golden led all the way but were certainly pushed hard by Clonoulty who will rue some missed goal chances particularly in the first half.
Golden were out of the blocks quickly with early points from play and frees from the impressive Josh Keane. However Clonoulty soon fought back and only a point separated the sides after the opening quarter.
Golden then extended their lead with good scores from Seanie O’Halloran and Josh Keane. They were grateful to goalkeeper Niall Fogarty who pulled off two miraculous saves just before the break to keep Golden in front by two points.
With the wind behind them in the second half Golden began to pull away again with excellent scores from Keane, Seanie O’Halloran and a fine goal from Thomas Wade. With James Casey outstanding at centre back Clonoulty could never break through to get a badly needed goal. Late points from Ger Barlow and Jonathan Wade sealed an impressive win for Golden. Best on the night for Golden were James Casey, Josh Keane and Seanie O’Halloran.
Dillon Quirke handled well in the Clonoulty goal and could not be faulted for the one that beat him. David Egan and Denis Murphy tried hard in defence and Mikey Ryan (W) in midfield. James Hammersley was the pick of the forwards.
