Saints took the lead on eightminutes when the ball fell kindly for Darren Lynch to score. After 15 minutes John O’Brien made it 2-0 with a stunning left foot strike from 25 yards. Both teams went to the break feeling that they could have done better and it set the stage for a good second period.

In the early minutes of second half Saints hard working midfielfer, Russell Quirke made it 3-0 when he finished from close range after some very good wing play by John O’Brien. The visitors were now coasting and it seemed more like the only thing to consider now was how much of a victory this was going to turn out to be, rather than whether Cahir were capable of making a game of it. St. Michael’s did extend the lead shortly after the hour when Quirke once again benefitted from good work by O’Brien to finish well. These players now seem to have an almost telepathic understanding of one another’s game, and they are going to be a real handful for whoever they play against in the season ahead. Five minutes later Quirke completed his hat-trick, this time reacting quickly to a rebound following a shot by substitute Pa Quinn.

Aaron Wall had little to do in the Saints goal in the second period but was finally beaten two minutes from the end when a snap shot from Eoin Farrell from 18 yards found the net. Alas for Cahir but it was only a consolation goal as Saints easily took all three points. Two from two now for both teams but at opposite ends of the happiness scale after this game. Michaels are blending very well and rise to the top of the league table, while newly promoted Cahir will look back on the second defeat of the season.
