Clonmel & Kilsheelan coursing club will this weekend host the 97th running of the Tipperary Cup.
This time honoured coursing event takes place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November at the Kilsheelan coursing grounds at Ballyglasheen. Coursing commences both days at 11am.
Six different competitions will be run over the two days including two qualifiers for the National Coursing Finals at Powerstown Park, Clonmel on the first weekend in February. However the two most prestigious events will be the Tipperary Cup (kindly sponsored by four friends of the Club) and the Sean Drohan Memorial Cup (kindly sponsored by Salvie & Tom Drohan).
Wilton Magic returns to the venue where he picked up his Derby ticket last season and will be a warm favourite to win the Tipperary Cup. He has most to fear from Marshals Mercury, owned locally by the Roche family from Lisronagh and a recent winner of the Slievenamon Cup at the Crohane meeting. The Drohan family will be attempting to win the Cup run in memory of their father with Snowys Babe and Light Oak. However this looks like a most competitive renewal and the entry includes the 2012 winner and runner-up as well as recent Mitchelstown Cup winner Eggemalong and Byerley Babe which represented Kilsheelan in last season’s Oaks. The Judge will be Liam Kelly from Templetuohy and Clonmel man Richard Brannigan will be in charge of the leathers. All are welcome to what should be two very enjoyable days.
