Star winger from Tipperary scores two tries and picks up injury playing for Ireland's Sevens rugby team

It proved to be an eventful fifth leg of the HSBC SVNS Series for Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe and the Irish women's Sevens rugby team in Vancouver at the weekend.

The Tipperary Town player scored two tries before picking up an injury in Ireland's 28-7 defeat of South Africa in the opening Pool A game on Friday.

The injury meant that the Railway Union player missed the remaining games, including a 24-7 defeat by Brazil and a 43-5 reverse against New Zealand.

These defeats dashed Ireland’s bid to maintain their medal-winning form, following on from last month’s historic tournament win in Perth.

However Ireland recovered to beat Great Britain 21-7 in the ninth place semi-final, before beating Japan in the ninth place final to collect four HSBC SVNS Series points.

The fifth leg of the series takes place in Los Angeles this weekend at Dignity Health Sports Park, the home of LA Galaxy.

Ireland have fallen two places to sixth in the overall HSBC SVNS Series standings. They have accumulated 42 points so far, with Canada and the USA (both 48) climbing above them at the weekend. Australia remain out in front on 72 points.
