Horse racing returns to Clonmel with seven-race card at Powerstown Park

The first race goes to post at 4pm and the last race of a seven-race card is at 7.15

Winning Aintree Grand National jockey Paul Townend will be one of the main attractions when horse racing resumes in Clonmel this afternoon.

Racegoers, as well as owners, trainers and jockeys, will be glad to return to racing at Powerstown Park, after the last two meetings and a rescheduled meeting were cancelled because of poor ground conditions caused by the heavy rainfall of recent months.

The feature race is The Suir Blueway Steeplechase at 6.15, where Paul Townend rides even-money favourite Horantzau d'Airy for trainer Willie Mullins.

The combination will also be hoping to score with the 7/5 chance Maroto in the Fourmilewater Maiden Hurdle at 5.10.

The first race goes to post at 4pm and the last race of a seven-race card is at 7.15.

After today, the next two meetings in Clonmel will be on Thursday May 16 and the ever-popular Barbecue meeting on Friday June 7.
