There were great celebrations at Freshford Squash Club last Sunday week, when the finals of the Three Rivers Squash League were played. Tipperary clubs were well to the fore with Killenaule, Ballypatrick and Thurles represented.
Killenaule went up against Ballyragget in the Division 2 Men’s Cup final while Ballypatrick played Clomantagh for the Plate.
The Ladies final took place first, when Killenaule played a spirited Thurles Squash Club. Irene O’Brien and Rebecca Hayden started the ball rolling with wins for Killenaule before Thurles came roaring back with a win of their own.
The pressure was mounting for both sides and up stepped Killenaule team captain Mairéad Fallon to take the vital win with an epic performance against Gillian Aherne to secure the vital third point. Lisa Desmond and Paula Bulfin made up the winning Killenaule team.

The men’s cup matches were intense from the very start with great exhibitions of squash from Eamon Lennon, Jamie McCormack, Paddy Rudkins and Kieran Bergin, whose matches all went to 3-2. Killenaule Squash Club came out victorious with a decisive 4-1 victory.
Meanwhile, both Clomantagh Squash Club and Ballypatrick squash club had drafted in some last- minute replacements to make up their teams. While Ballypatrick played well, victory went to Clomantagh on a 4-1 scoreline.
Squash will continue well into the summer, with all clubs continuing their inter-club leagues and the Three Rivers Division 3 league still in progress.
