Glengoole hopes sunk by Lough Derg

FAI Junior Cup 2nd Round

FAI Junior Cup 2nd Round

First Division Glengoole United blew the opportunity of joining the other 23 TSDL sides in the 3rd Round of the FAI Junior Cup when they were beaten by NTDL Premier Division outfit Lough Derg FC at the Community Sportsfield, Glengoole last Sunday.

Glengoole got home advantage after the first game was postponed. The TSDL side put in a good performance in the first half, creating a number of chances, but failed to convert any of them and in the end it was to prove costly.

The second half was a more even affair with both teams attempting to break the deadlock. It was eventually broken in the 55th minute when Richie Moate hit a speculative shot from 40 yards that took an unusual bounce and deceived the Glengoole ‘keeper to put Lough Derg ahead. Glengoole tried hard and pressed for an equaliser but without any luck and Lough Derg progress to the 3rd Round this Sunday away to fellow NTDL side Arra Rovers.
