Clonoulty Rossmore 4-21 Knockavilla Kickhams 0-13
Clonoulty Rossmore enjoyed a comfortable victory over a determined Kickhams side at Dundrum on Wednesday evening last in the opening round of this year’s Dundrum House Hotel minor A hurling championship.
Kickhams were out of the traps much faster and had three points on the scoreboard from Killian Loughman (2 frees) and Eoin Heffernan after five minutes.
Clonoulty opened their account after six minutes with a Ronan Heffernan point from a 65. This he followed up a minute later with the game’s opening goal. Heffernan added another point after nine minutes. Killian Loughman hit back with two for Kickhams to level. Clonoulty then hit a ten minute purple patch which yielded 1-6 without reply, the scores coming from Gary Donnelly (2) James Hammersley (2) Declan O’Dwyer (1) and Ronan Heffernan (1-1).
Kickhams, however, did not throw in the towel and scored the next four points from Loughman (3) and one from Brendan Ryan. Enda Heffernan then scored a great point. Ronan Heffernan added another and Paddy Hennessy struck a killer blow, on the stroke of half time, when he found the net with a first time ground shot. This left the half time score Clonoulty 3-10 Knockavilla Kickhams 0-9.
The second half had barely started when Clonoulty’s Declan O’Dwyer found the net from close range to effectively kill off this game as a contest. David Dunne and Paddy Hennessy added points for Clonoulty. Kilian Loughman had a point from a free after four minutes.
