Beaten West finalists Sean Treacys got caught by a late Moyne-Templetuohy rally which yielded three points in the dying minutes to snatch victory 1-14 to 2-10 in a cracking County IHC quarter-final at Drombane on Sunday.

They shared eight points after eighteen minutes and after Jamie O’Toole nudged Treacys ahead in the 19th minute, Paul Shanahan grabbed a goal for them in the 25th minute. Treacys scarcely had time to savour the moment when Diarmuid Fogarty raced through at the other end for a Moyne-Templetuohy goal. Two further Paul Maher frees had the Mid men ahead at the interval 1-6 to 1-5. Dinny Stapleton pointed Treacys into the lead inside a minute but John Hassett and Paul Maher points sent Moyne to the front before Sean Ryan and Dinny Stapleton had further Sean Treacys’ points to level after 8 minutes.

Paul Shanahan had a lucky second goal for Treacys, his shot slipping from Eddie Kelly’s grasp into the Moyne net, but Niall Russell kept Moyne’s focus with a point. Sean Ryan pointed again for Treacys but Paul Maher and Hugh Coghlan fired over for Moyne to leave only a point in it with nine minutes to play. Tom Ryan extended Treacys’ advantage in the 23rd minute but now Moyne put in a final surge.

Sub Martin Kelly pointed twice and in the third minute of injury time Diarmuid Fogarty “hared” down the left wing before clipping over the winning point from a difficult angle.

Key men for Treacys were Sean Kennedy, Sean Hickey, Denis Stapleton, Tom Hickey, Paudie Ryan, and goalscorer Paul Shanahan.
