The Tipperary team to play Longford in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Qualifier at Semple Stadium on Saturday has been named.
The team is unchanged from the side which lost narrowly to Cork by 0-16 to 1-11 two weeks ago in the Munster semi-final at Páirc Ui Chaoimh.
Indeed it will be the third championship game unchanged for Peter Creedon’s side, having previously beaten Limerick by 2-14 to 1-11 at the Gaelic Grounds on 31st May with the same starting 15.
Killenaule’s Paddy Codd captains the side from full-back.
Throw-in for Saturday’s game at Thurles is 4.45 pm. Extra-time will apply if necessary.
The game will be followed by the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship qualifier between Tipperary and Galway with a 7 o’clock throw-in.
Tipp footballers will be hoping for another determined performance like they produced in Cork and if they can manage that, coupled with the advantage of playing in front of their home supporters, it might just be good enough to win the day. However Jack Sheedy’s Longford will be buoyed up by their impressive away win against Division 1 League finalists Derry. It all promises to be a cracking do-or-die championship game.
Team: Paul Fitzgerald (Fethard), Ger Mulhair (Arravale Rovers), Paddy Codd (Killenaule, captain), Ciarán McDonald (Aherlow), Colin O’Riordan (JK Brackens), Robbie Kiely (Arravale Rovers), Peter Acheson (Moyle Rovers), Steven O’Brien (Ballina), George Hannigan (Shannon Rovers), Philip Austin (Borrisokane), Ian Fahey (Clonmel Commercials), Brian Fox (Eire Og, Annacarty), Conor Sweeney (Ballyporeen), Michael Quinlivan (Clonmel Commercials), Barry Grogan (Aherlow).
