Fundraising cycle for Tipp Minor Footballers

The Tipperary Minor Football team will hold a Fun Cycle fundraiser event on Saturday, July 21.

The Tipperary Minor Football team will hold a Fun Cycle fundraiser event on Saturday, July 21.

The family-friendly event will see cyclists complete a 132km trek from Nenagh to Clonmel, with stop-offs at Roscrea, Templemore, Thurles, Horse and Jockey, Cashel and Cahir along the way. The cycle will leave Nenagh at 9.30am and reach Clonmel at 3.30pm.

Everyone who takes part in the various stages is asked to don the blue and gold jersey as a show of solidarity for Tipp’s young footballers, who are looking to add back-to-back Munster Minor Football titles when they play Kerry in this year’s decider in Limerick at 12 noon on this Sunday, July 8.

Win or lose, the team will then face into the All-Ireland series. Proceeds from this event will go towards helping the squad meet the considerable costs that their busy schedule and success has guaranteed. Bucket collections will be held in each town the cycle visits.

Once the group has landed a fun-packed programme has been lined up with a non-alcoholic bar and barbecue at the ready. A bouncy castle will be set up while music will be provided by local DJs, with a prize-heavy raffle being held for all participants when they finally land at their destination, Clonmel GAA centre.

A host of top sporting stars are expected to make their way out to greet the peloton as it arrives in Clonmel. These include former Munster and Irish rugby greats, Denis Leamy and Alan Quinlan, All Star footballer Declan Browne and multi hurling All Star Eoin Kelly. Shane Long, the West Brom and Ireland striker, who hails from Gortnahoe, is also hoping to show his face. Nenagh’s Irish rugby international Donncha Ryan is another high profile star to throw his weight behind the venture.

The event will be hosted by Today FM’s Paul Collins, who comes from Annacarty.

Anyone wishing to take part in the cycle can either pay €20 or fill a sponsorship card to participate.
