Arravale Rovers grabbed victory over Lattin-Cullen Gaels in the last minute of a very exciting Tipperary Credit Union IHC semi-finalat Golden on Friday, winning 1-14 to 1-13.
With the sides level and not much more than a minute of normal time remaining, Mikey O’Dwyer hit a great point from near the centre of the field to give Arravale the lead and Paddy Dalton followed up almost immediately to make it two points. Lattin-Cullen Gaels had a couple of chances to get on level terms but a point was all they got when Seamus Grogan sent over just before the final whistle.
Gaels had the benefit of the breeze in the first half and led by 1-7 to 0-5 at the interval. Arravale had two great goal chances in the first quarter but were denied by a very alert Gaels keeper Steve Chapman. It was the combination who eventually got the only goal in the half in the 21st minute, when a fine sideline puck into the Arravale goalmouth was finished to the net by Pat Power. While Gaels increased their lead immediately on the resumption with a Pat Power point, the advantage passed in a big way to Arravale. In the course of five minutes they hit four great points from play and then, in the 12th minute, Brian Lowry got a goal after a great run. Cathal Dillon responded with a free for Lattin-Cullen Gaels to leave the sides level at the end of the third quarter. Timmy Dalton put Arravale in front. Lattin-Cullen Gaels replied with three points from Dillon, Power and Evan Hanley to go two points in front. Donagh Leahy replied for Arravale and Paddy Dalton brought the sides level in the 26th minute. O’Dwyer and Dalton then hitting the winning points
