It’s Dwayne’s world as Burns nets four for Clonmel Celtic

St Kieran’s 0 – 6 Clonmel Celtic

St Kieran’s 0 – 6 Clonmel Celtic

Clonmel Celtic were hurting after losing to their local rivals, Clonmel Town, last week, and no one was hurting more than Dwayne Burns after his sending off.

St Kieran’s themselves were coming off a demoralising defeat in a Shield final and were anxious to put in a good performance.

With barely ten minutes on the clock Dwayne Burns opened the scoring and was involved again in the move which doubled Celtic’s lead just after the hour mark.

It was the second half though where he really stamped his mark on the game hitting a quick fire hat trick with goals in the 50th, 62nd and 75th minutes to put this game far beyond the home side.

The coup de grace was delivered ten minutes before the end, when Rob Flynn hit Celtic’s sixth as they march onwards in the FAI Cup.

Glengoole United 2 – 0 Lough Derg

Glengoole United defeated North Tipperary side Lough Derg in this year’s FAI Junior Cup with a good win to complement their recent good run of form.

Despite a dearth of chances in the first half, it was the visitors who probably should have gone to the break a goal up, when a shot midway through the first period slid narrowly wide of the Glengoole post.

The home side upped the pace in the second half and got their reward in the 57th minute when Killian Duggan struck a brilliant free kick into the Lough Derg net from all of 25 yards.

Their tails were up now, and they mounted attack after attack but were unable to clinch that vital second goal. That is until a minute into injury time at the end when Michael Power crossed into the visitors area for Stephen Holohan to power home a header which sent Glengoole United into the hat for the draw for the fourth roun and keeps dreams alive.
