The winner of the Butler’s Sports Achievement Award for December was Paul Tobin.
Paul is coach to the local Taekwondo club and during December two of his charges, Laura and Áine Ryan, competed successfully at the Irish Open championships bringing home a total of one silver and three bronze medals between them.
Special sporting guest, Miceál McCormack, founder member of Fethard Athletic Club, presented Paul with his prize at a function in Butlers Sports Bar on Friday night, January 3.
Also present at the presentation was Ken Moloney, representing this month’s sponsor, Heineken.
Other nominees for the December Award were:
Linda Nevin who recently won county Division 1 Badminton title with her club Grange;
Joe Murphy who trained ‘Euphrasia’ who had a very successful racing season and was recently sold at the Newmarket sales for €500k;
Kiltinan Stud, breeders and owners of ‘The Fugue’ who recently followed up his brilliant second in the Breeders cup with an equally staggering performance when finishing second in the Hong Kong Vase, a Group 1 flat horse race in Hong Kong which is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older.
The overall winner of the awards scheme will be announced this Friday night at a special ceremony. See profile on the monthly winners on Page 57.
