Tipp youths come unstuck in Ozier Park

FAI Youth Inter-League Cup

FAI Youth Inter-League Cup

The TSDL suffered a rude awakening when they were comprehensively defeated by a very competent and business-like Waterford side in this F.A.I. Youth Inter-League Cup group match played in difficult conditions on an excellent surface at Ozier Park, Waterford on Sunday last.

Waterford dominated the early exchanges but the TSDL created the first goal-scoring opportunity when a good run down the left ended with Aidan Croke forcing the home side’s ‘keeper into a good save. However this was as good as it got for the visitors, as by the 18th minute Waterford had established a firm grip on proceedings. After 11 minutes Jamie Hunt put them ahead and shortly afterwards Josh Aimhui fastened onto a loose ball before powerfully shooting to the net. TSDL ‘keeper John Keating made a good save from Dean Reidy but could do nothing about a superb effort from Aimhui which cannoned off the crossbar before being cleared to safety and it remained 2-0 at the break.

Immediately after the changeover David Finnane found the net for the visitors but was correctly flagged offside and shortly afterwards, following an excellent build-up, Jamie Hunt was unlucky to see his effort come back off the post with the ‘keeper beaten. The reprieve however was short-lived, with Josh Aimhui fastening on to a through ball and rounding the goalie before slotting into the empty net. Worse was to follow with Dessie Hutchinson shooting home from the edge of the box, Jamie Hunt again on target with a cool finish and that man Aimhui securing his hat-trick with a neat finish through the ‘keepers legs. Jamie Hunt also secured his hat-trick when scoring from the penalty spot in added time after Harry O’Connor had handled in the area.

Hopefully the TSDL can benefit from the experience and regroup and win their other two Group games and qualify for the knock-out stages.
