FOURTH DIVISION LEAGUE
St.Kierans 2, Ballyneale 1.
What a week it was for St.Kierans. On Monday of last week they secured the Fourth Division Shield with a 3-1 win over Cullen-Lattin and fulfilled their seasons ambition on Sunday morning becoming Fourth Division League champions with a 2-1 win over fellow promoted side Ballyneale. This was a fitting end to a very exciting fourth division league which saw four contenders right up to the end. It was winner take all at Duneske as the two teams had already secured third division football next season. St.Kierans dominated the early exchanges and went ahead after 17 minutes through Marty O’Neill much to the delight of the large home support. This was the only score of the first half. Ballyneale equalised ten minutes into the second half when John O’Gorman finished a corner to the net. The all important winner came in mid way through the second-half through Shane O’Neill. After the game the winning team were presented with the fourth division trophy by league treasurer Richard Power. For St. Kierans it was the culmination to a great season which, by the way, isn’t over for them yet as they contest a Tipperary Cup quarter-final next Sunday. As stated on Bank Holiday Monday of last week St.Kierans were on the winners podium as they secured the Fourth Division Shield, overcoming Cullen-Lattin B. St. Kierans opened the scoring but were pegged back when Cullen-Lattin equalised. The winners restored the lead early in the second-half and secured victory with a late third goal.
Let’s not forget the gallant efforts of Ballyneale this season as they gain promotin and runnersup spot. Not so long ago the whipping boys of this division they really got their act together and last Sundays last league game was in fact their first league defeat. Lets hope they keep up the momentum in the higher division and they are wished every success.
Also spare a thought for Dualla who once again miss out on promotion. They were up there with the challengers all the way and were just pipped on the run in. Overall this seasons Fourth Division League was very competitive and a credit to all teams involved.
