A tally of 1-8 from Sean Flynn helped Fr. Sheehy’s to victory in Cahir on Friday evening in round seven of the South Intermediate Football championship.
Fr. Sheehy’s started the game better and led by 1-1 to no score before Ballylooby responded with the next three points through David Fox (2) and Daniel Morgan to leave the score at 1-1 to 0-3 after ten minutes. Fr. Sheehay’s were leading 1-4 to 0-3 before James Morgan finally raised a green flag for Ballylooby. Sean Flynn scored his fourth point (third from play) after a long free from John Corbett put him into space. At half-time Fr. Sheehy’s led 1-7 to 1-3.
Ballylooby started the better after the break and scored three points without reply through Pearse Murphy (2) and David Fox. Sean Flynn then scored the point of the night splitting the posts from 40 yards. David Fox responded from a free for Ballylooby/Castlegrace before Brian Reidy was sent off for a second bookable offence. Sean Flynn pointed the resulting free. Paddy Kennealy narrowed the gap to a point to leave the score at 1-9 to 1-8 with ten minutes remaining the next score was crucial and it went to Fr. Sheehy’s. Sean Flynn’s speculative free from 40 yards deceiving everyone and dropping straight into the Ballylooby/Castlegrace net to give Fr. Sheehy’s a four point cushion with time running out. After that there was no way back for the Bally boys.
Best for the winners were captain Pa Ryan, Tom Conway, Liam O’Connor and the very effective full forward line of Shane McGrath, Liam Condon and man of the match Sean Flynn. Best for a battling Ballylooby/Castlegrace side were Colm Flynn, Brian Fitzgerald, Luke Murphy, Paddy Kennealy and David Fox.
