Dual county minor Ross Mulcahy stood out like a colossus with an outstanding performance as Moyle Rovers advanced to the South minor football final following a nine points win over Cahir at Ned Hall Park on Wednesday night last.
However Rovers will have to improve significantly if they are to pose any threat to county champions Commercials in the divisional decider.
This was a strange game tactically with Cahir having by far the greater possession but Rovers were always in control on the scoreboard.
Rovers led 2-2 to 0-0 after 16 minutes with the goals coming from David Roberts and Stephen Quirke with Mulcahy involved in the creation of both.
At half-time the Powerstown/Lisronagh side led 2-4 to 0-3 with Cahir guilty of nine wides in the first half, being forced to shoot from distance by a congested defence as Rovers used Paddy Morrissey in a sweeping role. Had Cahir not been as profligate with their opportunities they would have been much closer at the break.
The second half was more even than the opening period. Cahir needed a goal but the nearest they came was when Tommy Morrissey made a superb reflex save to send Cormac Looby’s effort over the bar. After that they never looked likely winners.
For Rovers there were good performances from Tommy Morrissey, Sean Murphy, Shane Luttrell, Alex Sheehan, Luke Boland, Patrick Morrissey and Danny Owens.
For Cahir Oisin Moloney, Darragh Howard, Mikey O’Connor, James Walsh, Niall McKenna, Aaron Murphy and captain Cormac Looby all had their moments
