Glasheen, Thompson and Dalton go on spree as Saints score seven

St Michaels B 7 – 1 Redmondstown

St Michaels B 7 – 1 Redmondstown

After losing to the same opposition a number of weeks ago, the home side were out for revenge against Redmondstown last weekend, and they got it in a very convincing display hitting the visitors for seven..

Saints spent 20 minutes looking for an opening, but it eventually came when Elliot Thompson finished a Timmy Dalton cross to the net. The same player made it two ten minutes later, this time converting the good work Robert Kiely. With five minutes to the break Brian Glasheen made it 3-0, but Redmondstown gave themselves some hope when Paddy Whack O’Donnell pulled a goal back.

Glasheen got his second just before the hour mark to restore the home team’s three goal lead, and completed his hat-trick two minutes later. Saints were rampant now, and a brace of goals in the last 15 minutes by Timmy Dalton completed the rout.

Dualla 1 – 2 Glengoole United

Hurting from last weekend’s heartbreaking defeat in the Shield final, Dualla welcomed Premier team Glengoole United to their home on Sunday.

Despite the gulf in league position, the hosts refused to allow their guests play their normal game and pressed hard all over the pitch. Alas, just as they were readying themselves for a well-deserved break, Glengoole’s Adrian Maher slipped a ball under Sean Feery in the Dualla goal to put the visitors a goal to the good.

Undeterred the home team came back out all guns blazing in the second period, and had the game level within five minutes of the restart as Steven Coppinger looped a ball over the head of the Glengoole keeper. A typical cup game, now with the possibility of a shock meant that both teams were going hell for leather, and chances abounded at both ends. In the end though, the class and fitness of the higher placed team showed, and they regained the lead 15 minutes before the end when Stuart Hanrahan flicked a header into the Dualla net to put his team in the hat for the next round.
