The Barry McCarthy Memorial Swim Races are a popular practice run for the annual Carrick-on-Suir Triathlon Club Sprint triathlon race that take place on Sunday, August 11 at 11am.
An estimated 150 athletes are expected to compete in the event that will comprise a 500m swim in the River Suir in Carrick-on-Suir, a 20km cycle from Carrick to Kilsheelan and back and a 5km run on the Suir Blueway.
Garry encouraged the public to support the event that will feature many athletes from local triathlon clubs. He will be taking part in Carrick Triathlon as preparation from a 70.3 Ironman race in Italy in September, which he will compete in with fellow Carrick Triathlon Club member Alan O’Brien.
