The All Ireland Track and Field Championships took place last weekend in sun drenched Tullamore where conditions were ideal for competition and the standard was very good throughout these Championships with Clonmel athletes doing very well.
In the Girls under 16 100m Phoebe Murphy underlined her talent when once again winning the Gold medal in 12.32 secs and this will be a great boost to her as she now sets her sights at competing in the European Youth Olympics having been selected to represent her Country in Utrecht, Netherlands and will be jetting out soon with the team so best of luck to Phoebe.
In the Girls under 19 3000m final Laura Tobin ran a brilliant race when finishing 4th in 11 mins 30.19 secs. In the Girls under 18 400m final Roisin Cleary ran very well when finishing a close 4th in 59.76 secs. In the Girls under 18 400m Hurdles final Megan O Brien also ran very well when finishing 4th in 74.06 secs.
In the next couple of weeks the Club will have athletes competing at a number of International competitions and the Club would like to wish them all the very best of luck. s
This weekend Orlaith Moynihan is part of a Girls team competing in the International Youth Hill Running Cup in Nice, France.
Orlaith has had a good year of competition and this is a great way to finish off her season, representing Ireland at such an event.
Phoebe Murphy competes at the European Youth Olympic Festival Track and Field competition.
This is a fantastic honour for Phoebe who becomes the Club ‘s first female representative at this prestigious competition. Phoebe will be competing in Utrecht, Holland from the 14th to the 19th July. Phoebe will compete in the 100m and she is having a brilliant year and what a way to finish the season off in style then by representing your Country at such a high profile event.
Sean Tobin competes at the European Junior Track and Field Championships,
These Championships will be held in Rieti, Italy, from 18th to 21st July. Sean who is having a brilliant 2013 has been selected for both the 800m and1500m races at these Championships. In the 800m race a few seconds separate the top 20 athletes in Europe, so this will be a very competitive event. Sean is in great form at present having set a PB of 1 min 50.23 secs in Cork in May. In the 1500m Sean will also be aiming to run well. Sean ran a brilliant race last week in Mannheim, Germany where he clocked 3 mins 48.19 secs and currently lies in the top 25 at these Championships. That won’t deter Sean indeed such a challenge will make Sean focus on qualifying for the final.
Club Lotto - Lucky numbers were 12, 13, 15 and 16. One person had 3 numbers and won €100.
Three Clonmel athletes on Irish International Teams
Sean Tobin, Clonmel A.C. has been selected to compete for Ireland in the 800m & 1500m in Rieti, Italy at the European Junior Championships from the 18th to the 21st July. Sean continues to go from strength to strength at these distances & competed very well amid top international competition at the Cork City Sports recently. Orlaith Moynihan, Clonmel A.C. has also been selected to compete for Ireland at the International Youth Cup in France on 7th July. Phoebe Murphy, Clonmel A.C. has been selected to compete for Ireland in the 100m at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands in July. Phoebe obtained the European Youth Qualifying standard in both the 100m & 200m earlier this year. We wish all 3 athletes the very best of luck in their endeavours.
