GAA Clubs Round-Up

Ladies football

Hard luck to the under 12s who were defeated in the county final against Templemore. Our girls led at half-time by 1.1 to 0.1 thanks to a great goal scored by Eve Ryan. However we could not get the winning points and Templemore ran out winners 0.6 to 1.1. Well done to allconcerned to getting to the final.

Our minor footballers take on Cahir in the South Championship semi-final in Fethard on this Thursday evening at 8 pm. Clonmel Commercials and Ardfinnan contest the other semi-final.

Hard luck to Tipperary minors who lost little in defeat to Kerry in Killarney on Sunday last. Four of our side played on the day - Ross Mulcahy, Luke Boland, Danny Owens, Stephen Quirke with Shane Lonergan also on the panel.

Our U13 camogie team got their season off to a great start with a win against Cahir in Monroe on Tuesday July 4th on a scoreline of 2-2 to 1-0. It was an ideal evening for camogie with the pitch in perfect condition. We got off to a quick start when Emer Ryan lobbed a free over the Cahir keeper into the back of the net. This settled the girls and the girls led at half-time thanks to another goal from a converted free by Emer.

Our defence of Emma Tobin, Makayala, Louise and Emma Cronin defended superbly. The midfield combination of Emer, Aine and Sophie covered alot of ground and gave a plentiful supply to the forward line. Clare pointed following great defensive play from Emma Cronin. The forwards Ellen, Sarah, Alanna and Caitriona worked tirelessly.

Team: Emma Tobin, Makayala O’Donnell, Louise Norris, Emma Cronin, Sophie Delaney, Emer Ryan (2-1), Áine Fitzgerald, Clare O’Dwyer (0-1), Sarah O’Connor, Caitriona Phelan, Alanna Dowling and Ellen Buckley.

Well done girls and thanks to John Ryan who trains the girls and to Sarah O’Dwyer who helped on the sideline. Practice every Friday at 6pm.

U6s, 8s, 10s Practice

Practice continues every Friday at 6pm. New members welcome.

Our summer camp concluded in blazing sunshine on Friday night and what a brilliant week it was. We would like to thank all of the children who attended and all of our coaches, photographers, helpers, chefs, and sponsors. Everybody went home happy and we’re already looking forward to 2014. There are hundreds of photos up on the Facebook page so get tagging. Johnny Downey has a limited supply of surplus kits available for purchase by those who could not attend the camp so contact your coach if interested.

Kudos to the Junior hurlers who won their third and final group game in the South Championship on Friday night against Ballylooby in Goatenbridge. It was tight enough in the first half and the teams went to the break at six points a piece. Ballylooby went ahead briefly at the start of the second half but our boys began to turn the screw and in a purple patch crowned with a Colin O’Mahony goal, saw out the game on a score of 1.16 to 0.10.

We have finished second in our group and will now face one of Swan, Fethard, Newcastle, or Skeheen in the quarter final. There is another round of games in the other side and it is currently wide open. Well done all involved!
Team: Dean Horton, Aaron Arrigan, Graham Quinn, Aidan Fox, Eric Smith, Darragh Kearney, Marc Ahearne, Karl Kearney, Shane Kearney, Matthew Norris, Eoin Fallon, Dwaine Burns, Colin O’Mahony, Dean Kelleher, Paul Deady, Cian Hogan, Conor Arrigan.

UNDER 14s beaten

Our 14B hurlers lost to Fethard in their opening South Championship game on Thursday. Despite having only one player up to the age, our fellows acquitted themselves very well and can look forward to the rest of the championship

blitz in monroe

Well done to our U10 & U14 girls who enjoyed a great day on Saturday in a blitz out in Monroe. These girls are improving on a week by week basis and the results are starting to reflect their hard work. Well done to the players and coaches for their commitment.

under 12s return

Our U12 hurlers make a welcome return to the A grade in their championship opener against Cahir on Tuesday 9th. These boys were playing Division 3 in 2012 so this is a huge step up, and due recognition of their ability and potential.

training continues

At the time of writing we have no senior football fixture although the speculation is we may be out against Commercials on Friday night. Training continues.

Keep an eye on the Facebook page for fixture updates.

Summer Camp

Our Hurling Summer Camp continues during July, each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday commencing at 10 and finishing at 1 pm. The cost is €25 per child, or €35 for two or more children from the same family. The camp is for Under 6s to Under 12s, and all are welcome, including non-members.

Under 14s

The lads had a great win against local rivals, Moyle Rovers last Thursday evening in the South Championship. Obviously, the efforts of many of the players in Derry the previous weekend didn’t knock a feather out of them! Well Done!

Belated Congratulations

Speaking of Derry, I forgot to pass on our congratulations to our sister club, Commercials, on their great success in Feile Peil na nOg last week. Many of our under 14 panel were on that history-making team, and well done to each and every one of them!

Our joint venture with Commercials is going well; so far, so good! We drew four numbers, as you’d expect, but nary a winner in sight! The numbers were: 17, 22, 23, 27. Next draw in a fortnight.
