Killenaule Rovers and Slieveardagh United record cup wins

Tipperary Cup 1st Round

Tipperary Cup 1st Round

Killenaule Rovers 3 – 1 Clonmel Town B

Killenaule Rovers progressed to the next round of this year’s blue riband competition in the last of the first round ties when they beat Clonmel Town’s reserves after a brilliant first half display.

They opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Tom Kennedy finished to the net from a corner kick and doubled the lead on the half hour when Davy Noonan drove past the goalkeeper after some scrappy defending.

The game was effectively sealed when Andy Healy delivered a shot-come-cross which deceived the Clonmel keeper and put the home side three goals up at the break.

In the second half, Clonmel Town got more into the game and it took some fine saves by Killenaule keeper John Paul Doyle to keep his team in the ascendency, though Thomas Whalley did score what proved a mere consolation effort for the visitors just after the hour.

Peter O’Reilly Cup, 1st Round

Slieveardagh United 3 – 2 St Kierans

Fourth Division Slieveardagh came back from two goals down and two men down to progess in this pulsating tie on Sunday afternoon. Third Division St Kieran’s opened the scoring on five minutes through Pa Cummins, and doubled it 15 minutes later, through Shane O’Neill. However, the home side were back level in the tie with two goals in the dying minutes of the first half. The first a well taken effort by Eoin Burke, and then the beneficiaries of an own goal as Kieran’s failed to clear from a free kick.

Two minutes in to the second half Burke got his second goal to put Slieveardagh in front on the day, a lead they defended heroically to the end to book their place in the next round.
