The Munster Intermediate Cross Country Championships took place last Sunday in Newmarket on Fergus.
In the Ladies race there were no athletes from the County and that was a pity as we had a very good County Intermediate race in the County last month.
In the Men’s race the County was very well represented. Here William Maunsell of Clonmel ran a brilliant race when winning this title impressively. He went with the early pace and he was well positioned throughout the race. He made the winning move 300m from the finish when he put in a sustained surge that saw him go clear close to the line to win the title impressively.
We also saw very good performances from Stuart Moloney (Moore Abbey Milers) 5th, Kevin Moore (Dundrum) 9th, Tony Fogarty (Templemore) 11th, John Fitzgibbon (Thurles Crokes) 24th, Patrick Hughes (Thurles Crokes), Martin Keane (Dundrum) 36th, Donal Keane (Dundrum) 39th, Ruaidhri Devitt (Dundrum) 40th, Michael Moore (Dundrum) 49th and Stephen Ryan (Dundrum). The County team ran very well when winning the Inter County Silver medals, just beaten by two points for the Gold medals.
County Novice B Cross Country
These popular Championships take place next Sunday in Moyne, starting at 1pm and both races will be competitive. Eligibility for the Ladies 3K Championship race is as follows: Athletes must have competed in the County Novice Cross Country in Two Mile Borris this year. As the race in Two Mile Borris had 28 athletes competing, the top 5 in the County Novice are ineligible and they are Eileen McCullough, Phil Ryan, Maire O Shea, Anna Coughlan and Claire Devitt as well as Edel Leahy, Laura Carey and Frances Long who are previous winners of this title.
In the Men’s 6K race it is also 3 to score. Here the eligibility is that all athletes must have competed in this year’s County Novice Cross Country, with the top 8 as well as previous winners not eligible. That rules out William O’Dwyer, Patrick Hughes, Liam Shanahan, John Russell, Patrick Cummins, John Fitzgibbon, Sean Healy and Andrew Smyth as well as previous winners like Ruaidhri Devitt, Colm Bradshaw and Patrick Roche.
In the County Novice B Cross Country on Sunday, in the Ladies race Anna Byrne, Anne Maher, Yvonne O’Connor and Maedbh Moynihan have qualified while James O’Brien, Aidan Cremins, Neil Fox, James Denn and Jimmy Boland have qualified for the Men’s race. Hopefully we will have teams in both events as all the above mentioned athletes are running well at present.
The Club AGM takes place in Moynihan’s on Thursday, November 20 at 8.30pm. This meeting is open to all members and intending members. This is an opportunity for the members of the Club to help plan for the year ahead and build on the great achievements of last year.
