Thurles U14’s vs Cashel U14’s. Our old friends and adversaries Cashel were the visitors to Loughtagalla on Sunday last and the promise of a cracking derby whetted the appetite of all who attended.
Cashel were the first to score when defensive mistakes coupled with sluggish response saw the visitors run in a fine try. Amends had to made, and it was fitting that Joe Hynes took matters in hand. A committed run to the corner saw the ball grounded.
Fellow Holycross man, Paddy McGrath, eagerly slotted the ball for the extra points. Thurles threatened again and again and should have capitalised on chances but the visitors were complete in defence. Ryan O’Sullivan, Harry Tobin and crew made life difficult for the hosts and deservedly went ahead with a blistering effort from O’Sullivan.
With the clock almost complete it was time for a bit of miracle work, scrum down, ball from Dwan’s feet to James Devaney to Aaron Maher who grounded for the try to leave matters level. This left Thurles outhalf Paddy McGrath with the conversion to win the game which he duly slotted. The cheer that greeted McGrath’s ice cold delivery drowned out the final whistle on a match which was a credit to both sides. Thanks for all the support.
Training for minis as usual on Saturday at 12pm.
