Last Friday night at Thurles Greyhound Stadium there was a hugely impressive debut by the novice Pretty Flower in third Race on the card, an A5 A6 Race.
Owned by Pat Dalton from Golden, the winner was headed in the early stages by Daryanoor Lady but hit the front on the back straight and showed an amazing turn of foot to go right away and win by twelve and half lengths in an exceptionally fast 28.73.
Race 1 - A5 A6 525 yds: The Derek Kehoe trained Singing Hen owned by Caran Hehir and Claire Murphy was hugely impressive when taking the first Race on the card. After a fairly level break, the winner went clear on the run down and from here on was never headed holding off the persistent challenge of Rosmult Shaw by four and half lengths in a time of 29.26.
Race 2 - N2 A8 525 yds: From traps in this Race it was Murleys Hero who led with Windgap Bolt taking it up at the bend and leading to the third bend where Murleys took it up again and led to the last bend where the winner Jedi Warrior came through and went away to win by three lengths from Windgap Bolt in a time of 30.16.
Race 4 - S5 S8 360 yds: Michael Nagle’s Rathbay Jill was an all the way winner of this Race in a time of 19.70. Breaking smartly from trap 6, the winner was always in commend and held off the challenge of Follow the Robin by a length.
Race 5 - A6 A7 525 yds: This Race, a semi final of the TTSC Stake was won in a time of 29.10 by Thurlesbeg Alpha. From traps, it was Abeba who led with the winner slipping through on the rails at the first bend and opening up a good lead on the back straight. Maintaining a strong gallop to the line, the winner held off the challenge of the favourite Ballymac Jarlath by three lengths.
Race 6 - A6 A7 525 yds: The second semi final of this stake was won by Eileen Dwan’s Borna Empress who came from behind to win in a time of 29.42. Here, Isle of Kings got a flyer from trap 5 but was led to the bend by Cunagussos who led on the back straight from the winner. Approaching the third bend, the winner went away to win by two and half lengths from a staying on Bruces Lee.
Race 7 - A3 A4 525 yds: Here, Circus Whip showed the best early after a fairly level break and led to the bend and on the back straight from Slaneyside Beryl. On the home straight, Slaneyside came with a strong late run to get up to win by two and half lengths from Circus Whip.
Race 8 - A5 A6 570 yds: The final of the Thurles Poker Player A5 A6 525 Stake was won by Kim Knell’s Feed Me Caviar who was always prominent and crossed the line a half length clear of Popular Ronnoco in a time of 31.99.
The most impressive performer on Saturday night was the Michael Dwan owned Borna Native who took the second semi final of the TTSC A3 A4 stake in a time of 29.09.
Race 1 A4 A5 525 yds: This Race, the final of an A4 A5 stake was won by Jackie Sparrow’s Ballyphilip Ace who was making it three on the trot. From traps, it was the winner who led and had a great tussle with Slaneyside Colm on the back straight. At the top bends, Slaneyside Colm took it up and looked the likely winner however Ballyphilip came with a storming late run to win by a short head in a time of 29.60.
Race 2 A4 A5 570 yds: This Race, the first heat of a 570 yds stake was won by Denis McGrath’s Foxwood Spider who clocked 31.98. From traps, it was Monadreen Jass who led with the winner taking it up at the bend and going on to win by three lengths from Bua Pakie.
Race 3 A4 A5 570 yds: The second heat was won in the slower time of 32.29 by Peter Foley’s Active Air who was winning for the eighth time. After a fairly level break, the winner took it up at the bend to lead on the back straight from Kilmessan Katie. These positions remained unchanged to the line where a length and three quarters separated the duo.
Race 4 A4 A5 525 yds: The fourth Race on the card was won by Paddy Clancy and Tom Spillane’s Rosmult Hawk who was winning for the twelfth time when clocking 29.87. The winner was led to third bend by Beannacht Move. Here the winner came through and went away to win by two lengths.
Race 5 A4 A5 570 yds: The third heat of the 570 stake was won by Ann Scully’s Old Hollow Flash who clocked the fastest time of the first round when clocking 31.77. Race 6 A4 A5 570 yds: The final heat was won by Daniel Norton’s Impact Rose who clocked 32.27. Race 7 A3 A4 525 yds: This Race, a heat of the A3 A4 Poker Players Stake which has winner’s prize of €1750 was won by Denis Lennon’s Lemon John Jo who was making it three wins from six starts. Race 9 A2 A3 600 yds: The winner here was Brian Heffernan and Seamus Ryan’s Grangebeg Blaze who led from trap to line. Race 10: A1 A2 525 yds: Winning for the eight time in his career, JJ Dunne’s’ Emirs Boy recorded a good 29.15.
