Senior Hurling: Our Senior hurlers beat Thurles Sarsfields in first round of the Mid Championship on Friday last and play J.K. Brackens in the second round on this coming weekend. See “Mid Fixtures”.
Junior ‘B’ Hurling: We play Moyne in the Mid Junior League on Bank Holiday Monday. See “Mid Fixtures”.
Passing of Fr. Tony Kelly: Fr. Tony Kelly who passed away on Tuesday, 12th April was in his day a most accomplished hurler for his school, our club and county. After winning a Dean Ryan Cup medal with Thurles C.B.S. in 1952, he graduated to the Tipperary Minor team the following year, playing in every game at full back as victories over Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Antrim and Dublin secured the All Ireland title. He soon progressed on to our club senior team, playing at right half forward in the Mid final of 1955, a game won by Sarsfields before a crowd of 8,000 people in Gaile. Having joined the Colomban Fathers, to whom he gave a lifetime of service in the Philippines, his recent times were spent in retirement at the Colomban College at Dalgan Park, Co. Meath where at his funeral last week, his coffin appropriately bore the flags of his club and county on its final journey. Our sympathy to his entire family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Club Meeting: Our next monthly club meeting is on Thursday, 28th April at 9 p.m. in the John Doyle Centre. This meeting will be briefly attended and addressed by some officers of Tipperary County Board so all committee members are asked to attend.
Bucket Collection: Sincere thanks to all who helped with our bucket collection in association with Downs Syndrome Ireland over the last two weekends.
County Board Draw: Many thanks also to everyone who supported our County Board draw for the past twelve months. Receipts for the past year will be issued in the coming weeks as will brochures for the new draw. As well as being a highly attractive draw, this scheme is a vital fundraiser for our club in meeting the day to day running costs of our club and ensuring that our facilities can be kept in ship shape condition for our teams and for local school teams and camogie club teams who use our facilities every week. Continued support for the draw would be greatly appreciated.
