It’s very difficult to reconcile the Tipperary team of the first half of the All-Ireland senior hurling semi-final, with the Tipperary team of the second half.

How could a side go from being well in the game – leading by a point even at the break without having hurled up a major storm – to being 18 points in arrears at the end? It is truly baffling and a source of great embarassment for many blue and gold supporters as they trudged from Headquarters with their heads hanging. This was humiliation, pure and simple.

There were so many sideshows to this game that one wondered if the hurling would be spoken about at all. Three Kilkenny players joined the pre-match parade half way through; Lar Corbett joined the second half a minute late as Tipp commenced with 14; then we had the whole farce with Lar following Tommy Walsh for the whole game like a dog in heat – in was hurling gone mad, an incongruous spectacle which left Kilkenny bemused and Tipperary fans pulling their hair out.
