There was an upset in the final of the Thurles Champion Bitch Stake final at Thurles last Saturday night when the Grace Lennon owned Lacken Rua [Crash – Lacken Queenie] took the E3100 winners prize for the Lennon family who were winning this prestigious stake for the fifth time. Running from trap one the winner led down with the odds on favourite Borna Gem missing the break and was involved in some crowding on the run to the bend.
Shooting clear at the bend the winner was never headed from here on and although Carrowgarriff looked a danger for a few strides the winner went on to score by a length and half from Carrowgariff in a time of 29.05 with Paradise Kelli another length and a half back in third place.
Race one: The opening race on the card a heat of the Thurles Poker Players A3 stake was won by the reserve Knight Strider [College Causeway - May Said So] owned the Let The Hare Sit syndicate. who led down was passed on the back straight by Zip Bullet who led to the home stretch where the winner came with a strong late run and got up to win by a half length from Zip with Toystory Aston another length and a half back in third place in a time of 29.27.
Race two: Heat two a three dog affair was won by the well fancied Borna Premier [Premier Fantasy –Born Fastener] who made every post a winning one when running out an easy six and a half lengths winner over Lonergans Pub who was second with Spot The Hawk another four and a half lengths back in third place. The time here was 29.15.
Race three: The third race on the card was won by Berni Fitzsimons Monadreen Swift [Head Bound – Knockroe Magpie] who led down and was never headed. Maintaining a strong gallop to the line the winner went on to score by four and a half lengths from Milies Joe in a time of 29.98 with Ballydine Daisy another two and a half lengths back in third place.
Race four: After a fairly level break in the fourth race on the card Neon Bolt led down and showed in front on the back straight. Approaching the top bends Tonetta Bound [Head Bound – Goes Wild] owned by John Clancy showed a terrific turn of foot slipping through on the rails and going on to score by four and a half lengths from Anytime Jim with the early leader Neon Bolt another four and a half lengths back in third place. The time was 29.32.
Race five: Heat four of this stake was won by Lady Long Heir [Hondo Black – Me Margaret] owned by the Long Hair syndicate. Getting a flier from trap four the winner was never headed making every post a winning one scoring by three and a half lengths from We Was Happy in a time of 29.08 with Mooney The Man another six lengths back in third place. The winner was making it fourteen career wins.
Race six: This race a final of a A3 600yd stake was won by Mark Gales Mister Mancini [Head Bound – Pennys Kim] who led down after a fairly level break. Opening a good lead on the back straight the winner held off the late challenge of Rushmoor Ggrace by two and a half length in a time of 33.28 with Plutos Rena another half length back in third place. The winner was making it four wins from eight starts.
Race seven: The fifth heat of the Poker Players Stake was won by Brigid Rafters Boozed Bubble [Hometown Boy – Campions Folly] who made it all. This race another three dog affair was won in the time of 29.11 by Boozed who was seven and a half lengths clear of Kevinsfort Haze with Slanysie Diego another two lengths back in third place. The winner was winning for the fifth time.
Race nine: The final race on the card was won by Philp Heffernans Up To It [Head Bound – Her Eyesareblue] who clocked a good 29.09 when making every post a winning one crossing the line two and a half lengths clear of Gortkelly Bebe with Jolly Dodger another three lengths back in third place. Up To It was making it three wins from five starts.
The fastest time of the night on Friday was recorded in the last race by the Michael Dalton owned Express Henry [Kiowa Sweet Trey – Express Tune] who was making it two wins from two starts.Breaking smartly from trap six the winner led down and from here on was never headed going away to score by two lengths from Slaneyside Jody in a time of 29.35 with Triangle Lucca another two lengths back in third place. The winner is a June puppy.This was a heat of the Kasko A5 Stake.
Race one: The firat heat of the Kasko A5 Stake was won by the Keith Mason owned and trained Fully Charged [Duke Special – Lightfoot Lady] who clocked 29.75 when winning by a half length from Millbrook John with Petite Dainjou another half length back in third place. The winner was having his second race and is an August puppy.
Race two: Sidney Colcloughs Turbid Beauty [Ace Hi Rumble – Tubrid Spark] made it two on the trot and three in all when taking the second race on the card. Leading down the winner was always iin command and went on to score by two and a half lengths from Active Song in 29.48 with Velvet Finn another two lengths back in third place.
Race three: This race round one of a novice stake kindly sponsored by Thurles Tarck Supporters Club was won by Paul O Dwyers Hotspot [Droopys Scholari – Carlbush Jill] who took it up at the third bend fand went on to score by a length from Luxembourg in 29.94 with Knockalton Roxy another ten and a half lengths back in third place.
Race four: Willie Barrys Movealong Black [Head Bound – Movealong Sutty] got a flier from trap four in the fourth race ,the second heat of the novice event and clocked 29.66 when making every post a winning one scoring by a length from a strong finishing Harbour Mist with Pearls Biscuit another three lengths back in third place. The winner is a June puppy.
Race five: Patrick Nolans Triangle Shiraz [Ace Hi Rumble –Traingle Beyonce]took the third heat in a time of 29.76 when getting the better of a tussle with Crosstheriver by a length and a half. Cavecourt Fly was another five and a half lengths back in third place. The winner is an august puppy.
Race six: The Ned o Dwyer owned Doc Martin [Kinloch Brae – Tommys Tyrant] impressed when taking the sixth race on the card a N2/A8 event. A September puppy the winner was led for most of the way by Fawn Lad but came with a storming late run and got up to score by a half length from the long time leader in a time of 9.74 with Rackethall Andy another six lengths back in third place.
Race seven: This race a heat of the Kasko Dog Foods Stake was won by Hughs Comet [Hondo Black – Bling Bling Star] owned by Stephen Dowling. Making it two wins on the trot the winner led from flagfall and made it all holding off the late challenge of Thornbird by a half length in a time of 29.45 with Artistic Choice another three lengths back in third place. The winner is a may puppy.
