The Shop dominate Munster Championships
The turnout of teams was down but overall it was a great days pulling and enjoyed by the large crowd of spectators who came to support the local teams.
The first event was the Catchweight, where four teams competed they were Cuan Rithe, from Mallow, Co Cork. Inchnapough, from Brosna, Co Kerry. Farrenreigh, from Thurles. And the Shop from Loughmore. , and after pulling the round robin system the two top teams for the novice final were Cuan Rithe v Farrenreigh, and here Cuan Rithe took this by two ends to nil, so Cuan Rithe took the gold medals, and Farrenreigh took the silver.
In the senior final it was between the Shop v Cuan Rithe, and the Shop were very strong here and took this in two straight ends to take the gold medals, and Cuan Rithe took the silver.
In the 630kg five teams competed and they were the Shop A and B, Cuan Rithe, Farrenreigh, Inchnapough, there was some great pulling here with little between the teams, and after completing the round robin system the two teams to reach the novice final were Farrenreigh v Cuan Rithe, and Farrenreigh took this in two straight ends to take the gold medals, and Cuan Rithe took the silver.
In the senior final it was between the Shop v Cuan Rithe and the Shop took this in two straight ends to take the gold medals, and Cuan Rithe took the silver.
Judges on the day were Michael Carroll, Fermoy. Pat Carey, Thurles. and Alan Collins, Ballyhooly.
Now this Sunday June 2nd its Munster Championship day 2 and this will be hosted by the Inishannon Steam and Vintage Rally.
The weights here will be 640kg and 720kg so a good turnout of teams is expected for these two most popular weights.
Pulling will commence at 1.30pm after the weigh in.
