Drom/Inch 4-18 Aherlow Gaels 2-4
This Clean Ireland Recycling County JFC ‘A’ Quarter final played in Cashel last Saturday was a very onesided affair.Indeed this Drom Inch outfit could comptete creditably at a higher grade.Drom attacked from the throw in and following a good move between David Collins and David Butler, Jamie Moloney finished to the net.The Leonards Peter and Leo then put Liam Cunningham through for a point for the Gaels. However Aherlow did not raise another flag for the next twenty minutes.Meanwhile Drom Inch tagged on seven unanswered points, a brace apiece from James Woodlock and David Butler and one each from David Collins,John Ryanand Kevin Butler. Mark O’Shea set up the hardworking Paddy Hennessy for the Gaels second point after twenty four minutes. Seamie Callanan and Robbie Long chipped in with points, and the Gaels did engineer a good goal chance just before half time but Jos O’Briens effort was saved, so Droim/Inch led 1-9 to 0-2 at the break.
Drom/Inch again started the second half with a goal, almost from the throw in.Their excellent midfielder Jamie Moloney and David Collins set up David Butler for this goal. And again Aherlow Gaels replied.Aidan Kiely,Jos O’Brien and Mark O’Shea put Peter Leonard through for a goal. This score sparked a mini revival for the Gaels, and Michael Kenny lofted over a brace of points.Drom Inch replied with two points and David Butler put Keith Nolan through for his sides thgird goal.Again the Gaels came back and following a charge from Paddy Hennessy, Peter Leonard goaled. So at the end of the third quarter Drom/Inch led 3-12 to 2-4.During the last quarter Drom pulled away, Enda Walsh walking home their fourth goal, while the Gaels failed to score again.
It was a deserved victory for Drom who were by far the better side. They had strength in depth.Their defense was solid with Kevin Butler,Michael Lupton and Johnny Ryan outstanding.Jerome Ryan and Jamie Moloney were on top around midfield.Up front their forwards gave the Aherlow Gaels defense a torrid time, with David Collins,David Butler,James Woodlock and Seamus Callanan to the fore.Indeed the substitutes introduced also gave a very goods account of themselves.Thirteen different players managed to get on the scoresheet.
Aherlow Gaels were always on the backfoot but despite their best efforts ,could not compete with this strong Drom side.Their defense, where John Breen,Aidan Kiely and Liam Cunningham worked hard, was in trouble.Cathal O’Shea and later Paddy Hennessy battled hard at midfield, while Peter Leonard,Mark O’Shea and Michael Kenny were the pick of the attack
