The Chairman of the Mid Tipperary GAA Board, Mattie Ryan (Drom-Inch) defended the divisions failure to meet the county deadline for the U-21 hurling competition by stating that it was simply the price of success.
In a wide ranging and comprehensive address to Convention in the Community Hall in Templetuohy on Friday evening last, Matty Ryan said that despite the fact that the Board was being "lacerated" from outside the division, he would be offering no apologies to anyone for not having met the deadline. Games were held up quite significantly as a result of the success of Thurles Sarsfields and Loughmore Castleiney in the county senior hurling and football competitions and Sarsfields later on with the Munster Club championship.
In remembering the late Bob Stakelum and Sean Mockler who died during the year, Matty Ryan encouraged clubs to reflect on the 2010 season and to look forward to 2011 with great enthusiasm and to seek the same kind of high standards attained in the season passed.
There were two election contests on the night with Liz Flanagan (Moycarkey Borris) emerging as Assistant Treasurer over PJ Leahy (Moyne Templetuohy) on a vote of 29 -17; and Batt O'Dea (Loughmore Castleiney) and Jimmy Meighan (Gortnahoe Glengoole) emerging as Gate Checkers at the expense of Michael Curley (JK Brackens).
A new PRO, Andy Fogarty (Thurles Sarsfields) was elected unopposed while Jim Max (also Thurles Sarsfields) was elected Treasurer.
