Congratulations to the Intermediate hurlers and management on their 3-13 to 1-17 win over Kilkenny to secure the title for the first time since 2000 after what turned out to be a tension filled and exciting second half.

Although Tipp lead by 12 points at half time after playing with the wind, Kilkenny came right into the game in the second half. A great penalty save from James Logue near the end kept Tipperary in front and they held on for a deserved victory.

Special mention goes to Mikey Heffernan of Nenagh Eire Og who has now won All Ireland medals at 4 different grades of hurling – minor, under 21, intermediate and senior. We thank the management team led by Mick Ryan of Fethard which also included coach, Michael Ferncombe of Holycross Ballycahill and selectors, Eamonn O’Dwyer of Arravale Rovers and Sean O’Meara of Shannon Rovers, and the backroom team for all their excellent work preparing the team.

Good luck to the Tipperary minor hurlers and management team for the All Ireland minor hurling championship final against Dublin which will be played in Croke Park next Sunday at 1.15pm. Tipperary are seeking their nineteenth title and first since 2007 while Dublin are seeking their fifth title and first since 1965. Tipperary County Board would like to thank Declan Ryan, Tommy Dunne and Michael Gleeson for all their good work managing the senior hurling team over the last two years. It should not be forgotten that they led the team to two Munster championships and their record should not be judged solely on performances against Kilkenny. They have all served the county well for many years and we look forward to their continued involvement in the GAA in the county. We wish them and their families well for the future. A committee led by County Chairman, Sean Nugent, will now select a new management team for recommendation to County Board. This process will take at least 3 to 4 weeks and there will be no further comment from the Board or the Appointments Committee until the selection process is completed.

Thanks to all those who continue to support the Team Tipperary Telethon. Over E25,000 has now been raised and there is still plenty of time to contribute in advance of the October 1 closing date. This special fundraiser has been launched to support the training funds for the Tipperary inter-county hurling and football teams. We are seeking 1,000 donations of E100 and each donor will receive free entry for 2 people to the county senior hurling and football finals and a 10% discount voucher for a purchase at the Tipperary GAA shop. A special discount card to selected retail outlets will also be made available to contributors. Anybody wishing to donate €100 can do so by calling 0504 60040 between 9.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday or online at, or via any county board, divisional or club officer. We are appealing to the generosity of supporters who are in a position to make a donation to do so in the interests of maximising the chances of success for our teams as we complete the 2012 season and look forward to building on talent and progress for 2013. We appreciate the generosity of our supporters and look forward to their continued support of Team Tipperary.
