At the recent National Convention of the P.P.U.I. Lakeside received 2nd place in the prestigious Course of the Year Award. The recipients are selected from over 100 clubs nationwide and only Royal Meath (Clonee) were ahead of us. They hosted the International Open in 2012 and their course was in superb condition.
To be pipped only by them is a remarkable achievement when one considers the number of fantastic courses dotted all around Ireland. 2012 saw Seamus Ryan appointed as Course Manager and Alan Maher as Head Green-keeper. In consultation with the Committee, Fas supervisor Liam Leahy and his band of merry men all groups are now working in perfect harmony to produce the facility you see today.
The Club will host its own scratch cup on Monday May 6th as well as the Munster Mixed Foursomes on Sept 1st. 2015 which will see the clubs 50th anniversary and all going well we might land a big one that year. 2013 is the year of the Gathering and what better place to bring friends and relations for a couple of hours relaxation.
Weather permitting our door is always open and the course is fully supervised at all times. The course is a magnet for kids in the summer time with parents having the peace of mind that their child is safe. Membership rates once again remain unchanged for 2013 with an Adult 85, Student/OAP 50, Juvenile 35 and Family 150 (2 Adults and 2 Kids). Sure where would you get that value !!!!!!!!!
Lakeside also have 3 representatives on National Council - Myles McMorrow, Helen Mc Morrow and Liam Leahy. This is the first time that any club in the country has had 3 reps at the top table. So the outlook for Lakeside is a very positive one at the moment which is a great achievement considering the tough times we’re living in. So should you get the chance during the year come on out and play a round. Bring the wife and kids or the girlfriend or the grandparents. You will be most welcome.
