Local TD, Alan Kelly, Minister for Public & Commuter Transport has welcomed the news that five Tipperary GAA Clubs are to receive an energy upgrade as part of a major investment package announced by the Minister for Communications, Pat Rabbitte.
“This upgrade will save Ardfinnan, Upperchurch Drombane, Killenaule, Silvermines and Roscrea GAA Clubs approximately €2,000 a year each, which can be used for club development purposes.
“This initiative is part of a suite of 80 new community projects announced by Minister Rabbitte on Friday, in line with the Better Energy scheme. Overall, it will see 3,500 homes and 290 community buildings provided with energy efficiency upgrades nationwide.
Minister Kelly said: “This is fantastic news for these clubs and the local community. At a time when all local clubs are stretched for funding, this scheme will mean that money ordinarily spent on energy bills and costs can now be re-directed into club development and used directly on sporting activities.
“This scheme is being rolled out in co-operation with Musgrave, its retail partners SuperValu and Centra, and the GAA. Musgrave deserve credit for selecting five clubs in Tipperary out of only twenty two clubs nationwide who will participate in this scheme.
“This scheme is part of a range of similar initiatives overseen by Labour Party Minister Pat Rabbitte at community level to support practical energy efficiency upgrades. These schemes will make the properties buildings and facilities warmer, more comfortable, and less costly to run. This benefits householders, consumers and the environment.”
