Senior Hurling Championship

Senior Hurling Championship

The premier competition in the Division commences this weekend with five games down for decsion in the opening round of the Hibernian Inn Senior hurling championship.

Defending champions Toomevara and Moneygall get this year’s competition underway in Cloughjordan on Saturday at 5pm followed by Templederry Kenyons and Roscrea at 6.30pm. Toomevara and Templederry Kenyons will be favourites to take the spoils. On Sunday Kildangan take on Lorrha & Dorrha in Nenagh at 2pm.

Kildangan having started the year so well in their league campaign should get the nod over Lorrha in this one. The second game between Burgess and Kilruane McDonaghs at 3.30pm is likely to be a closely fought affair. Portroe and Borris-Ileigh bring the weekend’s action to a close in Dolla on Sunday evening at 6pm. Again this is likely to be a close game with Borris short a number of regulars through injury. Nenagh Eire Og V Borrisokane will play on Thursday evening.

Admission Prices and Programmes

In an effort to alleviate some of the financial pressure on club supporters, the Board has decided to reduce admission prices for the league stages of this year’s senior championship. Admission to venues where only one game is being played will be E5 for everyone while the admission price for double headers will be E10 and E5 for OAPs and students. At a cost of just E2, a single match programme is valid for all games in the league stages and all proceeds from programme sales go to Bord na nOg.

Minor Football

The Minor A and B football continues this week with a number of games fixed for Thursday evening at 6.15pm.

Junior Hurling Leagues

The Junior C hurling league gets underway this weekend with games on Friday evening.

U-16B Football

They make up of the semi finals were made known after Toomevara defeated Shannon Rovers Gaels in the final game. If Rovers Gaels had won and added a victory over Silvermines in the final game there would have been need for a play off. Now, we know that Toome’s four goal win against Rovers Gaels means they face Kildangan in the semi final and Borris-Ileigh take on Borrisokane in the second. Both games are going ahead next Monday with Borrisokane host their game against Borris-Ileigh after both sides agreed to toss. Toomevara and Kildangan will travel to Kilcolman for the second. The final is planned for April 18th.

Results: Portroe 2-7 Templederry 2-4, Toomevara 4-10 S Rovers Gaels 0-10, Silvermines 2-8 Lorrha 1-8.

U-14A Football

Kilruane MacDonagh had a very big win over Kildangan at Puckane last Wednesday. Newport/Ballinahinch played host to Borris-Ileigh and won easily. Borris-Ileigh face Kildangan in the next round on Wednesday 6th.

The next round will also provide a repeat of this year’s Peil final between Nenagh Eire Og and Kilruane MacDonaghs at MacDonagh Park. Nenagh won that game but there was very little between the teams.

Inane Rovers had a great tussle in defeating Ballina at Roscrea. Portroe were also at home when overcoming Newport/Ballinahinch. Borrisokane travelled to Moneygall and had a very easy win. The pick of the second round is surely Borrisokane v Inane Rovers at Borrisokane. Ballina have home advantage against Portroe.

In Group 2, Burgess and Shannon Rovers Gaels came home with big wins over Lorrha and Toomevara. Templederry defeated Silvermines at Templederry. The pick of the second round is Shannon rovers Gaels and Templederry. Burgess will face Toomevara at Kilcolman.
