A good crowd attended Thurles on Saturday night when featured was te final of the Fasttrap A5 final which was won in an impressive manner by the Kathy Latheiff owned Ashbourne Tail [ Ballymac Maeve – Fairy Tail ] who justified favouritism. Unbeaten in this stake the winner showed in front going to the bend and from here on was never headed opening a good lead on the back straight and holding off the late challenge of Tennessee Morning by a half length in a good 29.40 with Memories Walk and Sonahighway dead heating for third place another five lengths back in third place . The winners prize which was sponsored by Tommy Kerrigan was E1000 and the winner an april puppy was making it four career wins.
Race one: The opener was won by Michael KInanes Kevinsfort Haze [Premier Fantasy – Kevinsfort Tess] who was winning for the thirteenth time when getting a flier from trap four and making every post a winning one. Maintaining a strong gallop to the line Kevinsfort had four and a half lengths to spare over Bay City Opal who ran on strongly in a time of 29.44 with Soul Daddy another short head back in third place.
Race two: The second race was won by the novice Tonetta Millie [Head Bound – Goes Wild] owned by John Clancy .Making every post a winning one from trap six Tonetta just held off the strong late challenge of Hondo Chief by a short head in a time of 29.99 with Slaneyside Yank another two lengths back in third place.
Race three: This race a 750yd event was won impressively by the Gil Liddle owned March My Way [Make My Day – Late Delivery] who clocked a good 42.95 when breaing smartly from trap four and making every post a winning one scoring by four and a half lengths from Royal Crash with Oakfield Babe another length and a half back in third place.
Race four: Another novice to make a winning debut was Some Payments [Minnies Pavlova – Ellas Sweepy] in the fourth race on the card, Owned by Pat and Diarmuid O Halloran the winner showed in front on the way down and was always holding the challenge of Monadreen Bond by two lengths in a time of 29.64 with All Goes Well another five lengths back in third place.
Race five: The fifth race on the card a 600yd event was won by Boozed Bubble [Hometown Boy – Campions Folly] owned by Brigid Rafter . Here Drumgower Blue showed a nice turn of early foot to go clear on the run to the bend and led to the home stretch where Boozed came with s strong late run to get up on the line to wiin by a head from another strong finisher River Cullen in a time of 33.62 with the early leader Drumgower another three quarters back in third place.
Race six: The sixth race the first semi final of the Thurles Track Supporters Club A3/A4 Stake was won by John J Dunnes Skylark Snowy [Dukes Special – Borna Skylark] who made it four wins when getting the better of an all the way tussle with River Gem by a length and a half in 29.48 with Slaneyside Whirl another two and a half lengths back in third place.
Race seven: The second semi final was won by Slaneysdie Diego [Head Bound – Smooth Sky] owned bby Sean O Neill and Caran Hehir. Making it twenty wins Slaneyside was led in the early stages by Lonergans Pub but came through to score by a half length in a time of 29.52 with Donals Ace another length and a half back in third place.
Race eight: Michael Daltons Express Sailor [Droopys Scholari – Express Wish] clocked the fastest time of the night when making every post a winning one when leading from trap to line in the eighth race. Getting a flier from trap six Express was never headed and held off the late challenge of Boherna Boy by a length in a time of 29.23 with Slaneyside Jody another three and a half lengths back in third place.
Race ten: The final race on the card was won by Glengall Girl [Dukes Special – Glengall Beauty] who was completing a double for his owner John J Dunne. Clocking a good 29.24 Glengall was led in the early stages by Looks Like Tracy but took it up at the bend and went right away to score by seven lengths from Gerros Redsox with Looks Like Tracey another half length back in third place.
Run Of the Week Make My Day in the 750 yard race was impressive and looks to have a future over the longer distances.
One to Watch Ashbourne Tail who took the final of the Fastrap Stake is one that is improving all the time and will surely go on to better things in the future.
